Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to signup?

No. Val is local first. You can use it locally without ever having to signup. If you’re wondering why you would do that: managed images, rich text and urls are at least three good reasons.

Commits & patches?

When your app is running in production Val needs to store and retrieve the changes (in the form of patches) somehow. When an editor wants to publish a commit must be made. Val is set up to use the Val Build Cloud services to handle patches and commits so that you do not have to.

Is Val Build really free for open source?

Yes! Val's core is MIT licensed and completely free. You can use commits and patches for public GitHub repositories at no cost.

What counts as a seat?

A seat is one user account with access to your Val Build organization. Each team member needs one seat.

How does remote asset storage work?

Remote assets are stored in Val Build's cloud service, allowing you to manage images and files without committing them to GitHub. Pro plans include 100GB, with additional storage at $0.50/GB and bandwidth at $0.30/GB.

AI features?

Yes, though we believe in good APIs over AI slop and in the bring-your-own AI model, there’s undoubtedly AI features that makes sense in Val such as: summarization, translations, content creation. Currently they're free for Pro and Enterprise users.

Can I upgrade or downgrade anytime?

Yes, you can change your plan at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately, while downgrades apply at the end of your current billing period.
